Our Strategies

Hypertensive Diseases consist about 25 percent of the cause of maternal deaths in Nigeria. By focusing on this through the provision of digital blood pressure monitoring devices to communities, and educating women in these communities on usage, we are creating solutions to one of the biggest causes of maternal mortality.

Infections

Infections arise from unsafe deliveries that take place outside of healthcare facilities. We are training rural women on safe ways to conduct deliveries within the communities, even in the absence of skilled health workers, and also equipping them with more hygienic products to be able to conduct deliveries in more sterile environments.

Unsafe Abortions

Abortions are illegal in Nigeria which forces women to have abortions in unsafe environments, often leading to hemorrhage, infections and death. By educating rural women on the importance of contraceptives, we are working to reduce the incidences of unwanted pregnancies which often lead to the need for abortions.

Hemorrhage and Anemia

It is a fact that women in rural areas often have nutritional deficiencies that contribute to anemia in pregnancy. When these women then develop hemorrhage during childbirth, the reduced oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood leads to hypoxaemia and death. We have trained community volunteers who teach pregnant women items to incorporate in their diets to reduce the risks of anemia. We also provide these women with Iron and folic acid tablets.
